Children's Sunday School Teacher

The Children’s Sunday School Teacher is the shepherd of the class and is responsible for maintaining order in the class as well as overseeing and coordinating all class functions. The Teacher is expected to teach, reach, and minister to members and prospects and their families, with the help of the Assistant Teacher of the class.
The Assistant Sunday School Teacher should be prepared to help the teacher when needed with all responsibilities and duties.  This person must be able to fill in when the Teacher is unable to attend.

  1. Participate in teachers’ meetings (if one is available for your curriculum) and training opportunities.
  2. Work with pastor to choose curriculum for your class.
  3. Study and prepare for each weekly lesson. Gather necessary materials: handouts, craft supplies, etc.
  4. Pray for class members and visitors.
  5. Maintain up-to-date, accurate class records; including students’ names, parents’ names, addresses, telephone numbers, birthdays, etc.
  6. Arrive 15 minutes before class begins to make sure classroom is prepared and to greet students as they arrive.
  7. Promote spiritual growth and unity among class members.
  8. Maintain contact with children and parents. Call, visit or send cards to students on special occasion or when a student is sick or absent for two consecutive Sundays.
  9. Be faithful to attend all worship services unless providentially hindered and actively participate in a Sunday School class.
  10. Be faithful to support the church with your tithes and offerings.
  11. Be diligent in your personal bible study and prayer so that your continued spiritual growth will set a Godly example for others.
