Adult Sunday School Teacher

The Adult Sunday School Teacher is the shepherd of the class and is responsible for maintaining order in the class as well as overseeing and coordinating all class functions. He/She is also expected to lead the way in organizing the class for the most effective ministry, by suggesting officers, as needed, such as, outreach leader, care group leader, social chairman, etc. The Teacher is expected to teach, reach, and minister to members and prospects and their families.
 
The Assistant Sunday School Teacher should be prepared to help the Teacher when needed with all responsibilities and duties.  This person must be able to fill in when the Teacher is unable to attend. 
 
Responsibilities/Duties

  1. Participate in Teachers’ Meetings (if one is available for your curriculum) and training opportunities.
  2. Work with Pastor to choose curriculum for your class.
  3. Study and prepare for each weekly lesson. Gather necessary materials, handouts, etc.
  4. Pray for class members/visitors.
  5. Maintain up-to-date, accurate class records; including class members’ names, addresses, telephone numbers, birthdays, etc. Lead class to develop, maintain, and use a “prospect list” for the class. Keep and use “Guest Registration Cards” for each guest or visitor in class.
  6.  Arrive 15 minutes before class begins to make sure classroom is prepared and to greet class members as they arrive.
  7. Promote spiritual growth and unity among class members.
  8. Maintain contact with class members, guests, and current prospects. Call, visit or send cards to class members on special occasion or when a class member is sick or absent for two consecutive Sundays.
  9. Be faithful to attend all worship services unless providentially hindered and actively participate in a Sunday School class.
  10. Be faithful to support the church with your tithes and offerings.
  11. Be diligent in your personal bible study and prayer so that your continued spiritual growth will set a Godly example for others.
